Breaking Through Limiting Beliefs Inspired By Watercolour Painting!

[According to science the left side of the brain is responsible for controlling the right side of the body. It also performs tasks that have to do with logic, such as in science and mathematics. On the other hand, the right hemisphere coordinates the left side of the body, and performs tasks that have do with creativity and the arts.]

For so many years, a limiting belief formed in my mind that “The right hemisphere of my brain is weak so I would never be good at any art”. This caused me not only stop trying any art but also limited my definition of “Art” to only those activities that I could not succeed at.

Limiting beliefs are being formed so easily! Usually after a failure confirmed by external judgments. Human-beings have a tendency to easily form a liming belief about their failures which later on, in their lives, will get in their ways of trying that experiment again or to the extreme end to become a butterfly effect of many other failures.

After trying and failing sketching, playing guitar and playing harmonica I started forgetting about my desire for trying any other artistic activity, telling myself: “You don’t need another failure to understand that art is not for you!” This was despite other facts which were strongly denying this belief. I was always being appreciated for my photographs, blog posts, poems, writing skills and my passion to play with colors in any form or shape, I have chosen to let the limiting belief form my reality.

It was only 2 months ago, after a chat with a close friend of mine, followed by a colleague’s mentorship I could come over my fear of trying a new art! This time, watercolour painting which was a dream of mine since I was a teenager but never had the gut to try it!

Here I am, after 6 weeks of taking classes and practicing but mainly fighting my old belief, I could get to the above painting, not a master piece yet(!), as that wasn’t my intention, but definitely a huge progress and encouragement to continue.

As I’m thinking back on how I could win the battle to that limiting belief of mine, the following comes to my mind:

We Are Creative, Resourceful and Whole No matter how many skills or how much potential we haven’t discover yet, but we have been given the same brain as Picasso, Einstein, Steve Jobs and many others. We all have been given all we needed to fully live our lives. Ok! Let’s admit all those smart and talented people might have born with more brain wires than a normal human-being  but it doesn’t mean that we can not rewire our brain the way we want too!

We Should Trust the Process We can always co-create our realities, partnering with this generous universe. It is just a matter of not giving up hope and trust the process while trying to take us where we are supposed to be

We Are Work In Progress Accepting ourselves the way we are while everyday giving ourselves a new chance to try again without being afraid of YET another failure

We Are Greater Than What We Think To be surrounded by your inner resources, let them surprise you! Don’t define where they should take you to but more let them decide where your authentic self would be most presented

We Should Trust Our Intuition When it comes to watercolor painting, you think you know what your final painting would look like but it’s not as easy as it seems to get there! The moment you put the water and color on a piece of white paper, anything is possible! Water can run easily and freely on your paper, taking the color wherever it wants and most often, this might not be where we would targeted to be! But surprisingly, some of the best paintings I’ve done so far was a result of intuitive brush touches and feeling comfortable with where the water might take it to! So let your intuition play and trust it for taking you to the best place possible, sometimes where you would never be able to think of! When you trust your intuition, there would not be any failure but experience …

It Takes More than One Color to Create A Master Piece Share your limiting beliefs with trustworthy people around you! They might give you another perspective, might partner with you to give it another try and overcome your fear or they might have an inspiring story to share! Sometimes it takes more than your current thinking habits to break a limiting belief.

What is one limiting belief holding you back that you would like to break through it?!
